Menopur contains both a Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and a Luteinizing Hormone (LH). It is often used in conjunction with either Gonal-F or Follistim to aid with the ovarian stimulation phase to help with egg growth and maturation. It’s also an injectable, but comes as a powder and requires mixing before use.
You may feel a stinging or burning sensation at the injection site. You can try injecting your medication more slowly to experience less burning afterwards.
FAQs
Answers to common questions.
Can one vial of liquid be used for multiple doses?
Yes, each vial of liquid saline can be used to prepare up to five vials of Menopur.
Do I need to use the Qcaps to mix Menopur?
You can use either the Qcap or a 3 cc syringe and 1.5 inch needle to mix Menopur. It's always best to check with your provider about which method they prefer.
I'm having some issues filling the syringe with all of the Menopur medication. What should I do?
First, create a vacuum in the syringe by filling it with around 0.5cc of air. Then, hold the vial upside down and extract the medication. As the syringe gets close to filling up, flick the vial to get the last few drops.
How can I make injecting Menopur less uncomfortable?
It's common for Menopur to sting a little. Ice the injection area before and after injecting. Make sure the medication is completely dissolved before injecting, too. It can also help to release the medication from the syringe very slowly during the injection. How can I reduce any bruising?
You can reduce your chances of bruising when you pinch your skin prior to injecting. After you insert the needle, release your fingers that are pinching the skin. Using your index finger instead of your thumb may help you control the injection better. It's also important that you insert the needle at a 90 degree angle.
Can I prefill syringes that I plan on using over the next few days?
No, you can't prefill syringes of Menopur. The medication will not be effective if you mix the medication several days before you intend to use it.
